Uniqueness & fungibility

Uniqueness is a distinct expression of scarcity that deals with differentiation. When elements are interchangeable, (like changing one $20 dollar bill for another) they are called fungible. On the other hand, non-fungible objects, like two different paintings, generally cannot be swapped even if they share some formal characteristics.
