Of Birds and Trees
In the exhibition Of Trees and Birds, Jonas Otto, Lisa Rein and Fabian Mosele focus on machine learning classification and explore certainty in an uncertain field. Starting from lost images of a human-labelled image classification dataset, they seek to give back meaning to a segmentation that lost its original reference. Through an interactive installation, the work dives into the process of classification, interpretability and standardized systems that are the basis of the ever-growing machine learning models.
The work is accompanied by a paper on the same topic by Jiawen Yao.

Biographies
Jonas Otto
Jonas is a Creative Technologist and Technical Director. He is always most excited about learning something new. He is interested in algorithmic structures and aesthetics in design, architecture and nature. He draws his inspiration from connections between digital, physical and biological processes.
Lisa Rein
Lisa Rein a.k.a. Hysterical Pixel is an artist-researcher-designer based in Berlin. Their work ponders questions of digital media infrastructures, codes, languages, and emancipatory practices. With artistic and scientific means, they contribute to digital feminist practices and discourses, within and outside of the institution. Currently, they are researching the performativity of algorithmic face recognition systems.
Fabian Mosele
Fabian Mosele is an animator and synthographer working with generative machine learning models. They are currently studying the master in Digital Media in Bremen and investigating the intersection between animation, image generative AI and storytelling. Fabian explores identity and human agency in an AI driven world, through irony, parody and remix of internet culture.
